July 4 Activities River’s Edge Sports Complex-South


Fourth of July celebration featuring family fun, fireworks and Music for Americans concert.


Thursday, July 4, 2013

5pm: Gates open for picnicking and pre-show activities, including food concessions
8pm: Live concert with The Domino Band
9:30pm: Fireworks show


Free and open to the public
River’s Edge Sports Complex, Roanoke, Virginia. (Located on the south side of the Roanoke River along Wiley Dr.)


There is no parking area at River’s Edge Sports Complex and surrounding roads will be closed to vehicular traffic all day July 4. Access to event is by foot or shuttle bus. Shuttle bus services are provided from 5 p.m. on a continuing non-stop cycle, until all patrons have been returned to their point of origin. Shuttle buses will operate to and from two locations:

  • The Williamson Road downtown parking garage (Williamson and Franklin roads)
  • Virginia Western Community College parking lot (Colonial Ave at McNeil Dr.)

  • All buses are handicapped accessible and riders may bring chairs and coolers aboard.
  • Picnic baskets and lawn chairs are permitted. (There are no permanent seats at River’s Edge.)
  • No pets, alcoholic beverages, personal fireworks, political promotion/advocacy, solicitation or grills allowed. Smoking is highly discouraged.

Pre-fireworks activities and Music for Americans concert are sponsored by Carilion Clinic, Aetna and Berglund Fiat. The grand display of fireworks is sponsored by Kroger, WDBJ7 and The Roanoke Times. The event is brought to you by Jan Wilkins Enterprises and the City of Roanoke.


There is no rain date for the concert, but in case of rain on July 4 the fireworks will be displayed at 9:30 p.m. on July 5, weather permitting.
