Pulaski storm update: Schools delayed tomorrow

Pulaski County public schools will have a two-hour delay Monday. Faculty and staff should report at 8:15 a.m. to meet with building leaders and receive information on how best to support students.

Families or students who may need special assistance because of the storm should contact their school counselor or Theresa Reed in the school board office, at 540-994-2515, the district said on Sunday.

"Our hearts go out to the families and our communities who have experienced the loss of or damage to their homes and belongings," according to the school district statement. "We are thankful that there have been no reports of serious injury or loss of life. We are also thankful for the many volunteers who have come together to assist our communities."

County officials also announced an emergency shelter for food and overnight accommodations is closing today at the Pulaski Elementary School. From Noon to 6 pm, resources such as drinking water, tarps, and some limited food and clothing supplies will be available at the Maple Shade Shopping Center located on 81 Commerce Street in downtown Pulaski.
Virginia Secretary of Public Safety Marla Decker and State Emergency Coordinator Michael Cline are scheduled to meet with Pulaski County officials and view damage from Friday’s tornadoes at about 4:30 this afternoon.
