Roanoke police arrest man in motel stabbing
Police arrested Dana L. Carter, 44, of Roanoke, after a stabbing at the Econo Lodge on Orange Avenue in Roanoke.
Roanoke police Wednesday responded to an Orange Avenue motel to find a man stabbed in his chest, according to a search warrant filed in Roanoke Circuit Court.
Officers arrested Dana L. Carter, 44, of Roanoke, with one count of unlawful wounding after he told police he pulled a knife out of his pocket while he and another person were in room 132 of the Econo Lodge in the 300 block of Orange Avenue, the warrant states.
Authorities listed Michael L. Powell as the victim of the stabbing.
“Dana Carter said he didn’t mean to stab Michael Powell, and that he was trying to get Powell from fighting someone else inside the room,” the warrant states.
According to the warrant, authorities searched the motel room and found a knife.
Following the stabbing, Powell went to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was later discharged, according to hospital spokesman Eric Earnhart.
