I-81 sinkhole forms in collector lanes
A collector lane of Interstate 81 in Montgomery County was closed Monday because of a sinkhole and may remain closed until Friday, officials said.
The collector lanes are the lanes off Exit 118 that feed traffic in and out of the ramps at Exits 118C, B and A. A sinkhole formed beneath the right southbound lane just north of the Exit 118C ramp, the Virginia Department of Transportation said. Crews will repair the sinkhole by excavating it, filling it with rock, capping it with concrete and paving over it. VDOT hopes to have the work completed and the lane reopened by Friday.
