2 Franklin County wrecks, 1 man dies

Virginia State Police reported two accidents in Franklin County on Friday.

A Callaway man died in one of the wrecks.

Ernest Lee Hensley, 35, ran off the right side of Hatchet Creek Lane, a private, gravel road, causing his 2002 Ford Escape to overturn, said a state police dispatcher.

Hensley died at the scene about 8:55 p.m.

Another accident caused Virginia 122 in Franklin County to be closed for a couple of hours Friday afternoon.

Thomas Gallegos, 18, of Hardy was traveling north on 122 about two miles north of Virginia 116 in Burnt Chimney in a 1994 Toyota Corolla when he crossed a double yellow line and hit a 1995 Ford truck nearly head-on, causing the truck to go over a bank, according to Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Bob Carpentieri.

Gallegos was listed in good condition Saturday at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Neither the driver nor passenger of the truck was hospitalized.

Police charged Gallegos with failing to drive right of center and not wearing a seat belt.
