Passenger in Roanoke County school bus wreck dies of his injuries
The passenger in a car that struck a school bus along Hunting Hills Drive in Roanoke County on Nov. 13 died over the weekend, authorities said Tuesday.
Christopher Duane Garrett, 42, of Wirtz was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in serious condition after the wreck, Roanoke County spokeswoman Teresa Hamilton Hall said. He died Sunday, she said.
The crash, which occurred about 8 a.m., took place in the 5200 block of Hunting Hills Drive. Police said Donna Jean Divers, 39, also of Wirtz, was driving a Nissan Altima when she lost control of the car and slammed into the front of the bus. Hall said speed was a factor in the crash.
Divers was pronounced dead at the scene.
Elma Lee Roberts, 69, of Roanoke was driving the school bus to Cave Spring Middle School. Three special education students were on board, along with an aide. No one on the bus was taken to the hospital, authorities said.
