Vinton man charged in 2 gas station robberies

A Vinton man faces a pair of charges after investigations by Roanoke city and county police tied him to robbery cases at two gas stations.

Roanoke police spokeswoman Aisha Johnson said officers Wednesday arrested Zachary Lewis Meador, 25, shortly after an 11 p.m. robbery was reported at the Shell station in the 4800 block of Williamson Road Northwest. Johnson said officers spoke to a clerk at the store who told them a man had demanded money before leaving with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The description led police about a mile away, to the 3800 block of Williamson Road, where they found and arrested Meador.

The arrest aided Roanoke County police in their investigation of a New Year's Eve incident. Police said they were called to a 7-Eleven convenience store Monday night in the 5000 block of Plantation Road for a similar robbery.

A subsequent investigation led county authorities to file a charge against Meador, as well.

Meador faces two counts of robbery.
