Welcome, Parents!
Hundreds of southwest Virginia teachers have discovered the great value in using The Roanoke Times in their classrooms. No matter what subject they teach, the Newspaper In Education (NIE) program can provide teachers with classroom subscriptions and exciting educational activity supplements to use with the newspaper.
A great program brings great test results.
Research has shown that on average, students in schools with at least some NIE programs scored 10% better on standardized reading tests than schools with no NIE programs. In schools with a large percentage of low income, minority, or immigrant students, the increase in test scores for those using NIE was as much as 29%. In all cases, the more newspapers used throughout the year, the greater the gain in test scores.
