The Virginia High School League Executive Committee on Thursday turned down appeals made by Lee and Virginia high schools over their assigned districts for the two-year cycle beginning in 2005-06.

Lee petitioned the VHSL to play as a Group A school despite having a Group AA enrollment. Virginia High, which was placed in the Lonesome Pine District of Region D after declaring its intention to drop from Group AA to Group A next year, appealed to be assigned to the Hogoheegee District of Region C.

The committee rejected both appeals to end a two-day meeting in Charlottesville. The VHSL urged Lee and Virginia to work with Region IV of Group AA and Regions C and D to come up with a plan for a combination district for approval by Oct.13.
