BLACKSBURG - Monet Tellier scored a season-high 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Virginia Tech women's basketball team beat George Washington 50-31 on Saturday at Cassell Coliseum.

Taijah Campbell had eight points and 11 rebounds for the Hokies (2-2). Nia Evans added nine points and seven boards, and Alyssa Fenyn had six assists.

Tellier, the Hokies' top returning scorer from last year, had scored 16 points in the season's first three games combined.

"Monet is her worst critic, she just tries too hard," Hokies coach Dennis Wolff said in a news release. "She was on pace to have a really good game, then she just got herself a little too revved up. It's never really a question of effort. It's her giving in to herself, rather than her teammates and coaches and she deserves a lot of credit."

Tellier committed seven turnovers, but the Colonials couldn't capitalize.

Virginia Tech allowed George Washington just 11 field goals. Chakecia Miller had seven points and Megan Nipe had six points and five rebounds for the Colonials (3-2), who hit just 24.4 percent of their shots from the floor and 27.3 percent from the free throw line.

The Hokies tied their record for fewest points allowed in a game. Tech beat Presbyterian 64-31 on Jan. 5, 2009.

"I was just told that this was the lowest point total ever by an opponent, which is good, but we've played pretty good defense in all of our games," Wolff said. "We just need to somehow find a way to play better on offense."
