Power outages reported in Southwest Virginia: APCO outage map

Appalachian Power is reporting significant power outages in Roanoke County and other areas of Southwest Virginia.

Here's a breakdown of reported outages (as of 9 p.m.):

>> Roanoke: 4,375
>> Roanoke County: 6,368
>> Botetourt County: 2,492
>> Montgomery County: 7,633
>> Giles County: 6,426
>> Pulaski County: 8,262
>> Floyd County: 3,648


Schools announce closings

Roanoke County schools and Roanoke City Public Schools will be closed Friday, school officials have reported. Closings have also been announced for Salem City Schools and Craig County schools.


All departing flights canceled at Roanoke Regional Airport: Check flight status

Both runways are closed at Roanoke Regional Airport. The airport said it closed the runways at 5:45 p.m., because of rapid snow accumulation and poor braking action.

All departing flights have been canceled. They are working on the runways, keeping open the possibility that eight scheduled arriving flights could land after 8 p.m.
