Man's condition doubtful after attack in Roanoke County
Roanoke County police are investigating a Saturday night attack that sent a man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Lt. Chuck Mason said officers were called at 11:15 p.m. to Valley Gateway Boulevard near the Kroger supermarket in Bonsack. They found Kevin Chambers, 41, unconscious on the side of the road. He had been badly injured, Mason said.
A medical crew took Chambers to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
No one has been arrested in the attack, police said.
"We have identified an individual associated with the incident," Mason said. "We have talked with him, but we haven't placed any charges."
Police did not say what sparked the fight, or exactly how Chambers was injured.
While Mason said that Chambers still was listed as alive Tuesday afternoon, the medical examiner's office said an autopsy was scheduled for this morning.
Teresa Gereaux, a spokeswoman with Roanoke College, confirmed that Chambers works on the college maintenance staff as a member of the grounds crew.
Members of Chambers' family could not be reached Tuesday.
